Competition and cooperation in thermophysical properties research

Akira Nagashima

Received 15 September 1999

Abstract. Worldwide cooperation among researchers is an important procedure for the supply of common and reliable data and data bases of thermophysical properties, which are useful to industry. However, to improve the quality of the data, on the one hand, and to supply really influential information, on the other hand, competition is also a very important and effective procedure. Information on thermophysical properties is common human knowledge and, at the same time, is the vital key for entering a high-tech age. Thermophysical properties are the basic strategic data needed to retain leadership in advanced technology.
